Propagating Succulents

This method of growing succulents continues to fascinate me and is one of the easiest ways to either start of grow your succulent collection! It is extremely rewarding to see how these succulents can multiply and grow off a single leaf, but I must say, it does take a lot patience as it takes some time to see progress – sometimes weeks…or months. So, if it doesn’t look like anything is happening, don’t stress! All that is needed to begin is a single succulent leaf.

Step 1: Gently remove a succulent leaf from the stem of your main plant and place it in a dry and shady area. At this stage it’s a personal preference whether you would like to place your leaf on soil or not. Either method works!

*Watering your succu-leaf regularly isn’t necessary as they can survive from the water stored in their leaves.

Step 2: Wait a couple of weeks/months until roots start to form, and then a baby succulent will pop out the end of your leaf.

Step 3: Place leaf on top of soil (if it wasn’t already) and spray with a spray bottle every 2-3 days in warmer seasons and about 1 time a week in colder seasons. Eventually, your original leaf will wither and die off and your plant can be watered with it’s appropriate care methods.
